The clingfilm that will have been applied to your fresh tattoo—I ask that you aim to keep this on preferably until the following morning. This wrap protects your tattoo from any bacteria entering the site—Wait until you are in a suitable environment to remove this.
Wash your hands with Anti-Bacterial Fragrance Free Soap (like Carex) —I recommend using the same to clean your tattoo. Pat dry with fresh kitchen roll or let it air dry. (Avoid using toilet roll or a towel to dry, both of these can carry dirt/microfibres) You want to treat your tattoo like you would an open wound, aim to avoid anything from touching it. Once dry, spray with SKNWRKS (I might have given you a bottle.)
The following day, when the skin begins to feel tight, I recommend you now start applying Solid Formula Palmers cocobutter (or a balm specifically made for tattoos) Less is more to avoid clogging your pores. Before you apply anything, first make sure that your hands are clean.
Continue to keep the area clean and washed 2-3 times daily, For 14 days. It is essential that you do not submerge the tattoo fully in water, for example (no swimming pools, hot tubs, beaches+ baths) for at least two weeks minimum—Continue showering.
During the healing process, it is normal for your tattoo to feel itchy. But refrain from picking, rubbing or scratching— this could result in scarring. If your tattoo seems too dry or to be cracking, this could be an indication that you should apply cream more frequently. Wash the tattoo well before putting any more balm on, you never want to be putting fresh cream over old cream.
Avoid long showers/baths while your tattoo is healing. Long durations of soaking will loosen scabs that have formed and can have a detrimental effect on the healing process. It is advisable to wear clean, older, loose fitting, comfortable clothing over the tattooed area during healing. Your new tattoo may secrete excess pigment and/or blood–You can rewrap in cling film for the first night to avoid staining your sheets from any leaking. Be mindful of pets and pet hair around a fresh tattoo.
On average it takes around 2-4 weeks for the tattoo to heal, and a full month for it to look settled. Keep your tattoo covered from the sun/limit direct sun exposure during the first 3-4 weeks, this includes sunbeds.—Once healed wear SPF-50.
